December 2013 Commencement

Ticket Pick Up Dates
If you have not yet picked up your Commencement tickets and plan on participating in the December Commencement ceremonies there is still time to do so. Tickets will be distributed on the following days:
- Monday, November 25, 2013 and Tuesday, December 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building located at 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
These dates are for graduates who have not yet picked up any tickets. Be sure to bring a photo I.D.
Wayne State University confers degrees for Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms and honors its graduates by hosting Commencement ceremonies in December and May. The ceremonies are for students completing degrees only - Ph.D., Ed.,D., Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's.
The December Commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, December 14, 2013 at the Matthaei Physical Education Center. Ceremonies are scheduled for 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Please see the complete ceremony schedule for the time of your ceremony.
If appropriate deadlines are met, students completing their degree requirements in one of the following terms may participate in the December 2013 Commencement ceremonies:
All Ph.D./Ed.D. candidates must check with their advisor and/or dean's office in the Graduate School or the College of Education for the exact requirements needed to complete in order to participate in the December Commencement ceremonies.

All Ph.D. and Ed.D. candidates will participate with their respective school of college ceremony.
Review you STARS Degree Audit in Pipeline and contact your academic advisor if you are unsure if all your requirements have been met.
APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE
All degree candidates must apply to have their degrees certified in Pipeline. To submit an application, log into Pipeline, click on the "Student" tab and select "Apply for Degree or Certificate" from the Student Records menu. There is a $40 non-refundable certification fee that must be paid before your application for degree certification can by considered. Payment must be made at the time of application either by credit card or electronic check. If you are currently registered, you can also choose to add the fee to your student account. NOTE: You will have to reapply and pay the $40 fee again if you do not complete your degree requirements in the term of application so please make sure to check with your advisor before applying.
SPRING/SUMMER 2013 - APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
The deadline for Spring/Summer Degree Applications was Friday, June 7, 2013
If you will be completing, or have completed, your degree requirements in the Spring/Summer 2013 term you must have completed your online degree application by June 7, 2013. If you did not complete your degree application by that time you must speak with your advisor.
If you completed your online degree application by June 7 and did not participate in the May 2013 Commencement ceremony you are eligible to participate in the December 2013 Commencement ceremonies.
FALL 2013- APPLICATION DEADLINE/PROCESS
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Fall term (ending in December 2013) you must complete the online degree application through Pipeline. The deadline to complete the degree application is Friday, September 27, 2013. Please make sure you apply for the Fall 2013 term. You will then be eligible to participate in the December 2013 Commencement ceremonies.
Be sure to apply for the term in which you will be completing your degree. If you choose the incorrect term you will have to reapply and pay the graduation fee again.
Walking in commencement does not mean you have completed your degree requirements. Please verify with both your major advisor in your department and your general education advisor at the University Advising Center that you will be completing all your requirements in the correct term.
Ph.D. Candidates - Please contact the Graduate School at firstname.lastname@example.org for exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.
Ed.D. Candidates - Plesae contact your advisor and the College of Education Graduate Advising Office at
577-1635 for the exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in commencement.
Due to the large number of graduates, seating at commencement is limited and tickets are required for all guests. Each eligible graduate my receive a maximum of four (4) guest tickets. Guest admission to the ceremonies is by ticket only. Graduates are not required to have a ticket.
TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES AND LOCATIONS
Tickets for the December 2013 Commencement ceremonies will be distributed on the following dates and locations.
Please note: A photo identification and signature is required before tickets will be released. Tickets will not be released without proper identification.The WSU commencement Office does not sell tickets or replace lost tickets.
Grad Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, November 14 and Friday, November 15 at the Welcome Center and Barnes & Noble Bookstore located on the northwest corner of Woodward and Warren Avenues.
It is strongly encouraged that eligible students attend Grad Expo to take care of all their commencement needs at one time.
- Receive commencement guide with detailed instructions for graduates and guests
- Pick up guest commencement tickets (Each graduate is allowed a maximum of four (4) guest tickets.)
- Purchase cap and gown
- Speak with a representative from the Office of the Registrar
- Order graduation announcements
- Purchase diploma frame
- Speak with a representative from Financial Aid
- Order class rings
- Receive information form the WSU Alumni Association
- Take advantage of additional services provided
ALTERNATE TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES AND LOCATIONS
For those students who are unable to attend Grad Expo tickets will also be distributed on the following days and locations:
- Tuesday, November 19 from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Oakland Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Directions to the Oakland Center may be found at: www.oakland.wayne.edu/center/location.php.
- Monday, November 25 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
- Tuesday, December 3 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
If you are unable to attend Grad Expo or the additional ticket distribution dates please make arrangements to have your tickets picked up by a family member or friend. You must send a signed permission letter with the name of the person your tickets may be released to and a copy of your photo identification before tickets will be released.
GUEST TICKETS ARE REQUIRED FOR ALL GUESTS ATTENDING COMMENCEMENT.
