Wayne State University confers degrees for Fall, Winter and Spring/Summer terms and honors its graduates by hositng Commencement ceremonies in December and May. The ceremonies are for students completing degrees only - Ph.D., Ed.D., Doctoral, Master's and Bachelor's.
The December 2014 Commencement ceremonies will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2014 in the Matthaei Physical Education Center. The complete ceremony schedule is listed below.
If appropriate deadlines are met, students completing their degree requirements in one of the following terms may participate in the December 2014 Commencement ceremonies:
All Ph.D./Ed.D. candidates must check with their advisor and/or dean's office in the graduate School or the College of Education for the exact requirements needed to complete in order to participate in the December Commencement ceremonies.

Review your STARS Degree Audit in Pipeline and contact your academic advisor if you are unsure if all your requirements have been met or if you have any questions.
APPLY FOR YOUR DEGREE
All degree candidates must apply to have their degrees cerfified and to be eligible to participate in Commencement. To sumbit an application, log into Pipeline, click on the "Student" tab, and select "Apply for Degree or Certficiate" from the Student Records menu. There is a $40 non-refundable certification fee that must be paid before your applicatoin for degree certification can be considered. Payment must be made at the time of application either by credit card or electronic check. If you are currently registered, you may also choose to add the fee to your student account. NOTE: You will have to apply and pay the 440 fee again if you do not complete your degree requirements in the term of application so please make sure to check with your advisor before applying.
The deadline for Spring/Summer Degree Applications was Friday, June 6, 2014.
If you completed your degree requirements in the Spring/Summer 2014 term and did not participate in the May 2014 Commencement ceremony you may participate in the December 2014 Commencement ceremonies.
If you will be completing your degree requirements in the Fall 2014 term (ending in December 2014) you must complete your degree application through Pipeline by Friday, September 27, 2014. Be sure to apply for the Fall 2014 term.
Ph.D. candidates, plese contact your advisor and the Graduate School Ph.D. Office at email@example.com for exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in Commencement.
Ed.D. candidates, please contact your advisor and the College of Education Graduate Advising Office at 313-577-1635 for the exact requirements you need to complete in order to participate in Commencement.
Due to the large number of graduates, seating at Commencement is limited and tickets are required for guests. Each graduate is eligible to receive a maximum of four (4) guest tickets. Guest admission to the ceremony is be ticket only. Graduates are not required to have a ticket.
TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES AND LOCATIONS
Tickets for the December 2014 Commencement ceremonies will be distributed at Grad Expo.
Grad Expo will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 11 and Wednesday, November 12 at the WSU Welcome Center and WSU Bookstore (northwest corner of Woodward and Warren Avenues).
Grad Expo provides graduates the opportunity to take care of all their Commencement needs at one time and only takes a few moments to do so. During Grad Expo graduates may:
- Confirm eligibility to participate
- Receive Commencement Guide containing ceremony schedule, information on parking, arrival times, seating and more
- Pick up guest tickets. Graduates may receive a maximum of four (4) guest tickets
- Speak with a representative from the Registrar's Office for questions about diplomas, transcripts or change of address
- Purchase cap and gown
- Order announcements and class rings
- Purchase diploma frame
- And much more
.A student photo identification and signature will be required before tickets are released. Tickets will not be released withour proper identification. If you are unable to attend Grad Expo you may make arrangements to have your tickets picked up by a family member or friend. You must send a signed permission letter with the name of the person your tickets may be released to and a copy of your student photo identificaton before tickets will be released.
ALTERNATE TICKET DISTRIBUTION DATES AND LOCATIONS
If students are unable to attend Grad Expo, guest tickets will be distributed on the following days and locations:
Monday, November 17 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Advanced Technology Education Center (ATEC), 14601 E. Twelve AMile Rd., Warren
Tuesday, November 18 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (conrer of Cass and Palmer)
Thursday, November 20 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Oakland Center, 33737 West Twelve Mile Road, Farmington Hills. Directions to the Oakland Center may be found at www.oakland.wayne.edu/center/locattion.php.
Monday, November 24 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
Monday, December 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administratino Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer) This is the last day tickets will be distributed,
ADDITIONAL GUEST TICKETS
Additional guest tickets are not available at this time. If extra tickets become available graduates will receive an email on Novermber 26 notifying them of extra guest tickets. Graduates may be able to receive two (2) additional tickets on a first-come, first-served basis. Extra tickets will not be distributed until Monday, December 1 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. in the lobby of the Academic Administration Building (AAB), 5700 Cass Ave. (corner of Cass and Palmer)
